Kindred: The Fire
After Dana vanishes once again, she discovers that she had went back in time to meet Rufus, the red-haired little boy she saved from drowning. Both characters have realized that Dana reappears every time Rufus is in trouble. After putting the puzzles together, a new character was introduced that seems to bring importance to Dana's life. Alice, a free woman, who happens to be Rufus's friend, meets Dana while Dana encounters several white men on horses. It has been mentioned on this chapter that Dana resemblance Alice's mother, which makes me think of the possibility that Alice might be Dana's ancestors. If that is the case, Alice is an important factor in Dana's life because without Alice, Dana would not exist in the future.

Yes, we meet Alice, another important character here. So she and Rufus may both be Dana's ancestors, which is interesting and also a point of potential conflict in the 19th-century world since Alice is black, Dana is black, and Rufus is white.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a very small usage/mechanics note - you wrote "had went," which is absolutely a clear and acceptable phrase in spoken English and less formal written English (which includes this blog). However, it may be useful for you to know that for formal written English, as in the essays you will submit for this class, we would use the past participle after "had," so "had gone" (or simple past tense "went" e.g. "I went to the store yesterday). You probably learned this in English class already and were just writing your blog entry as you would speak, which, again, is fine - this blog is not super formal. Just a note!
